Denver’s Kent Anderson Earns Academic All-America Honors from CSC

Rising junior defenseman is ninth player from NCHC all-time to land on Academic All-America Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – University of Denver rising junior defenseman Kent Anderson has been selected to the 2023-24 Academic All-America Men’s At-Large Team for his exceptional performance in the classroom and on the ice, College Sports Communicators (CSC) revealed Wednesday. Anderson was tabbed to the Academic All-America Second Team, as voted on by CSC.

Anderson is the lone Academic All-American from the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) this year and becomes only the ninth NCHC student-athlete ever to garner Academic All-America accolades. Anderson is one of only 47 NCAA Division I student-athletes to earn a spot on the 2023-24 Men’s Academic All-America At-Large Team, including one of 15 on the Second Team. He is one of only three NCAA Division I men’s ice hockey players to be chosen for the First or Second Academic All-America Team this year.

The Men’s Academic All-America At-Large Team consists of student-athletes from the NCAA Division I men’s sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, volleyball, water polo and wrestling.

49189Anderson (Calgary, Alta.) previously earned the NCAA’s Elite 90 Award at the 2024 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four for having the highest grade-point average among Men’s Frozen Four participants. The business and finance major carries a 3.98 GPA into his junior year at the University of Denver. Anderson repeated as an NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete this past season, again earned Academic All-NCHC accolades, and collected All-American Scholars honors from the AHCA for the second time, as well.

On the ice, Anderson tallied a career-high eight points in 41 games from the blue line in 2023-24, including the first three goals of his college career, as well as a career-best five assists. The then-sophomore helped the Pioneers win the 2024 NCHC Frozen Faceoff and the program’s 10th NCAA National Championship in March and April.

To be eligible for Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Student-athletes must have participated in at least 90 percent of their team’s games this season or started 66 percent of the games. They also had to be named to the Academic All-District Team in June. CSC, previously known as CoSIDA, serves as the voting body for all Academic All-America Teams.

Anderson was among 15 NCHC student-athletes who earned Academic All-District honors from CSC back on June 25, including six who were tabbed finalists for the Academic All-America Team.
